Wolf Midstream – CO2 Compressors

Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) completed EPCM services for a carbon capture project for Wolf Midstream. CO2 generated at the North West Redwater Partnership (NWRP) Sturgeon Refinery and the Nutrien Redwater Fertilizer Facility is captured, compressed, and sent to the 610 mm (24”) Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL) to the Enhance Energy Clive Oil Battery and other producers in the vicinity. Startup occured in October 2019.

Main AGTL Compressor Station

The Main CO2 Compressor Station compresses 84 MMSCF/d of dehydrated CO2 from the North West Redwater Partnership (NWRP) Sturgeon Refinery into the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL). The CO2 enters the facility at 1430 kPaA and is compressed to 18,000 kPaA. Installed equipment includes:

  • Siemens STV-GV (3-6-H) six-stage integrally geared centrifugal compressor and electric motor
  • Compressor Building & Office Buildings
  • Interstage Coolers, Aftercooler, and Plenum Heaters
  • Inlet and Interstage Knockout Drums
  • Air Compression for Seal Gas and Instrumentation
  • Transformers, Switchgear, VFD’s and MCC’s
  • Vent Stack and Vent Knockout Drum
  • PSV’s, Pipe, Valves, and Fittings
  • Station Metering
  • Operator Work Station including SCADA Gear
  • Modular Piperacks and Skidded Design
  • Site civil design and work including grading plans

AG9 CO2 Compressor Station

The Nutrien facility produces hot CO2/water vapour steam. 800 t/d of recovered CO2 is compressed to 18,000 kPaA into the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line (ACTL). Installed equipment includes:

  • Two (2) Plate and Frame Inlet Condensers
  • One (1) Inlet Separator c/w Produced Water Transfer Pump
  • One (1) six-stage electrically driven stainless steel integrally geared centrifugal compressor c/w stainless steel equipment
  • One (1) dehydration package c/w stainless steel equipment
  • One (1) process package to condense and liquefy dry CO2 stream c/w carbon steel equipment
  • One (1) refrigeration compressor package c/w carbon steel equipment
