Murphy Oil – Tupper West DexPro™ Dehydration

Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) provided engineering, procurement, construction support, and startup assistance for the install of two (2) 1 MMSCF/d DexPro™ dehydration units at Murphy Oil’s Tupper West Gas Plant in Northeast, British Columbia.

Murphy Oil needed a dehydration solution for two scenarios. They needed to ensure that sour sales gas sold to Spectra Energy didn’t exceed the contracted value of 4 lb/MMSCF water content and contained up to 5% H2S, and to ensure that acid gas sent to an acid gas injection well had a maximum hydrate temperature of 25°F, which provides a 15°F buffer below the 40°F ground temperature.

The DexPro™ dehydration solution was chosen because it has the capability of running in two modes, Acid Gas Injection and Sour Sales mode.

In Acid Gas Injection mode the DexPro™ unit allows removal of water from the pure acid gas stream down to a water content of approximately 60 lb/MMSCF which provides a hydrate temperature of 25°F for acid gas injection.

In Sour Sales mode the DexPro™ unit allows removal of water from the pure acid gas stream down to a water content of approximately 16 lb/MMSCF with a hydrate temperature of -37°F, which is blended with sweet gas to meet Spectra Energy’s specifications.

The units were operational Q1 2011.
