Gas Liquids Engineering Ltd. (GLE) provided engineering for a heat recovery system to recover heat energy from the sales gas compressor turbine exhaust at the Strachan processing plant located in Central Alberta. The facility uses a 17500 hp GE LM-1500 gas turbine driving a 12,500 hp DeLaval centrifugal compressor for sales gas recompression. The waste heat captured can replace utility steam required for the process heat at this plant, and increase overall plant efficiency. The heat recovery system scope included:
- Installation of a waste heat recovery boiler on structural steel frame above the roof of the building housing the turbine
- Economizer installation
- Gas duct and vent system
- Instrumentation and control equipment and design
- Valve and gauge installation
- Accessory piping
- Expansion joints
- Insulation installation
